On the brink of another phase. [02 Sep 2007|11:45pm]
[ music | Soul Meets Body - Death Cab for Cutie ]

'We've got to keep this little clique clicking over' - Of Montreal

The time to post to this journal has seemingly returned. At the beginning of another academic year I can approach the 'joys' of year thriteen with a sprinkling of confidence. With four solid A grades under my belt I can hopefully secure a place at Birmingham with ease. American Canadian Studies (ACS) seems like almost the perfect course for me, encompassing my love of American culture, history and geography.

In other news, there is no news. RP and LARP rattle on at a pleasant pace, should be wrapping up WFRP pretty soon after a pretty good run. The adventure hasn't done all I wanted, but then again nothing does. Got my first Maelstrom event coming up and it promises to be a lot of fun. I have my outfit ready =D

Well, I would pour the musty innards of my soul into this place, but it's of very little interest.

Adieu

Hello again. Time for another update methinks.

Started my WFRP game at club, it's going pretty well atm, but it'd be good if people got into the atmosphere a tad more.

School, yeah, its tough in terms of the workload but it's nice to have people around that're great fun =] My ethos of being nice to people works quite well.

That's it. I hate you all.

Well, 6th form has begun, it's a hooped container of laughs. Oh, smell the sarcasm.

Yeah.

In fields where the yellow grass grows knee high... [30 Oct 2006|09:52pm]
[ mood | calm ]
[ music | Lonestar - Norah Jones. ]

Mmm, what to write about? I have resolved to update this journal more than once every six months so I'll have to find some intersting stuff to write about... either that or become a more intersting person.

I do recommend wookieepedia very much, it's the star wars wiki and being a mad star wars fan it's quite easy to waste about an hour just pressing random article.

Anyway, seeing as my street cred just plummeted I'll have to regain some of it by detailing... a recent mugging? A happy slap? I don't know :s It's all a bit forced isn't it? So, back at school, what joy that is but at least I've got the blues group to look forward to. Work is piling on etc etc.

Didn't I say I'd write about something interesting? Concerning lj, I've comtemplated whether another person's personal affairs would interest or captivate another random user... if no, then why write it down?

Music then, something that everyone can relate to.

Iron & Wine, if you haven't heard the name before you're either horribly uncultured or have been living in a dank cave for the last couple of years. His album 'our endless numbered days' is truly wonderful and after hearing the minimalism of Jose Gonzlaes it's wonderful to hear an more textured instrumental accompanyment to vocals. It is my opinion the lo-fi sound or aesthetic should only be achieved via sentiment or theme rather than technology. Surely ideas/lyrics/emotions are best conveyed via the medium that brings the listener closest to a live setting and I think Sam Beam achieves that on his latest record.

Wolf Parade - Apologies to The Queen Mary

Well, it seems that off the back of the indie-tronic lofihifinofi sound record companies across the world/Canada have latched on to many fledgling bands that have a whirring keyboard or slightly uncool lead singer. Wolf Parade are one of those bands and although horribly uncool, they give us a charming, slightly shambling soundscape that is quite pleasing. Quite similar to CYHSY so if you like them, then this comes recommended. =]

I'll update some more albums in my next post methinks.

Thankyou.

Well... [25 Oct 2006|12:15am]

[ music | Liquor Store Blues - Sleepy John Estes ]

It's late, about a quarter past midnight and I'm up chewing things over, thinking about old stuff. Old memories, old friends. Old. I've neglected using this lj in favour of, well, nothing particularly interessant. I'm now doing my A levels, what joy. DT imploded when Richard metamorhasised into the world's biggest cunt. Yeah, not like I'm bitter or anything. Anywho, I'm still playing guitar, forming blues group at my 6th form which should be rather good. But rather than talk about trivial events in my rather trivial existence that don't interest your trivial scrabble for entertainment I'll fail to replace it with profundity.

A leaning to melacholia is never my goal but one just glides doesn't one? Finding people that really matter, that don't just occupy that neccessary colleague/accuaintance/mate category is pretty tricky, since Richard screwed me over it's made it tough to, I don't know, trust? Yeah, so I guess I've gotta get my head down, do some work then pop up the other sound without explosions, crashes, fights or... two pencils up my nose.

Without an outlet for spewing, monlogues or a good source of scotch I guess I'll use this place a bit more often, as it doesn't, moan or complain about a lack of empathy or somesuch. However, I fear a blank canvas could become rather insular. If you read, I fear for your sanity and thankyou.

Charlie.

Yeah, so the band is doing quite well, we've got a good few tunes coming along, hoping to get gigging properly soooon. Richard's sitting next to me and wouldn't notice if I shot myself in the leg, the twunt. He's changed quite a bit. Well, whatevs LoL¬!!¬!¬___!!

[ music | Turn it Out - DFA 1979 ]

Well, it has been a while...

Much has happened in the months since I last posted a journal thingy, so I'll go into some detail... unless I get bored, in which case I'll stop.

So, my band, Diverted Traffic are doing well I suppose, we've got all the members etc etc. We're covering some Nirvana stuff as it's really funt to play. I've written loads of material for the band, some of which is my favourite yet. I have two new guitars (that makes 4 then) an Epi Joe Pass signature, called Mary Beth and a Tele custom called Barry. I <3 my new guitars very moooch.

I've been to some kickass gigs, such as The Cribs at academy two (again) and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club at the Irish Centre, it was very very fun.

Um... what else? I'm currently studying (ha!) for my 13 GCSE's, it's really dull. Hmmm... I discovered that I have 16 hours of blues music on my computer, which is nice.

I pwomise to keep updating my journal, now that I have stuff to talk about

Much love <3 xxx

well, gigs to update, Magic Numbers were really good enjoyed them loads and loads. The NME Tour was insanely brilliant, here's a review

This was easily the best gig I've been to in aaaages, amazing bands, great crowd

I'll try and do a proper run through

Battle - Cool lads, a long way to go but some tight riffs and great drum work, I liked 'Deamons' and 'Isabella'. The guitarists teles were great and the bass was smooth as hell.

Next, Towers of London - I guess they are a stage show, a musical dinosaur of a bygone irrelevant age but live, it's electrifying. When the lead guitarist is playing his Les Paul inches from your face, spewing beer and grimacing, I guess it's worth it.

THE CRIBS - EOIVBAQLVGNAPFNAPFNAPVNAP3VBNAP, yes, brilliant, phenomenal, the best live band I've seen in ages, Ryan was in top form, talking affectionately of their native Wakefield at many intervals. Ryan also fell over like a jeriactric on ice, resembling a shambling loafer, but a talented one. They played all the classics like 'the new fellas' 'wrong way to be' and 'another number', all phenomenal. So your thinking good show, but you'd like to hear of another band from the tour WELL NINE BLACK ALPS CAME ON STAGE AND PLAYED WITH THE CRIBS, pretty cool, I think we all can agree

I'm tired... and need cuggles and company of someone special, such a drag.

suuuuch an amazing gig
Surf's Up

[25 Apr 2005|09:14pm]
In a word, amazing

we slid in quite late mooched around near the mixing desk and waited for Sons and Daughters, they were competent enough but lacked good tunes i think, the lead guitar was too loud and drowned out the vocals but hey, what do I know?

We elbowed our way right near the front on Allan's side and waited, and waited. Then they arrived with style, finesse and just a little swagger, Idlewild... were back

The crowd accepted the new stuff but the old tunes brought the best reception. People really got into WIAISS and Roseability and much jumping and jostling went on, shouts of 'Roddy!' arose from the crowd, bringing a shy smile from our front man.

The fucking wazzocks chucking plastic glasses did not phase these assured professionals, not to be stopped by a few knobs. But anyway, a great gig which dispelled any doubts I had, they played older songs with a freshness and vigour most newer bands fail to grasp.

Great memories, Rod taking the piano, Colin on tambourine, the crowd howling 'I know that that's not enough now!' back at Roddy... the list is endless.

So no need for doubting, Idlewild still rock

Closet Fleetwood Mac found in Birmingham, the suspect who can not be named for legal reasons was found on Monday morning playing along to hits from the classic band

His lawyer, Smarmy McBastard, says that his client was subjected to blues-rock and is innocent.
